Vista
An Oceanside man was killed Tuesday when the car he was riding in struck a telephone pole along South Santa Fe Avenue in Vista, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Eduardo Gonzalez Torres, believed to be between 25 and 30, was the passenger in a car whose driver fled on foot after the accident, said CHP Officer Len Schroeder.
Witnesses told police that the car was headed southeast on South Santa Fe Avenue between Smilax Road and Las Flores Drive at about 90 m.p.h. when the driver lost control.
Police are searching for the driver, said CHP dispatcher Jim Logan.
A telephone cable that fell after the car struck the pole caused extensive damage to another car, but the driver of that car was uninjured.
