Bold Second Wins the De Anza Stakes
Bold Second surged from last place to first on the far turn and went on to defeat Running Over by 5 1/2 lengths in the $53,050 De Anza Stakes Wednesday at Del Mar Race Track.
A 3-5 favorite, Bold Second outclassed four two-year-old rivals as he scored his third victory in four starts. The colt, trained by Charlie Whittingham, earned $30,550 to increase his bankroll to $53,425.
Bold Second drew out in the stretch under mild urging by jockey Gary Baze and returned $3.40, $2.40 and $2.20. Running Over, second by almost two lengths, returned $3 and $2.40, and Michael D. Man paid $2.60 to show.
