Compton Students Win 5 Awards for Video Productions

COMPTON — Students in the Compton College telecommunications class won five awards in recent Compton Community Access programming competition. Two first-place awards went to the video and television production class--one for a video of the taping of the new Compton College theme, which was written by two staffers, and the other for “Reason to Live,” a documentary about Los Angeles street gangs.

A second-place award was garnered by the Extended Opportunity Program and Services’ “African Perspective,” a production of the keynote speech by Dr. Yosef ben-Jochannon at the 1986 African Peoples Conference. In addition, two honorable mentions were won by June Mason, a blind student, and Eric Chapman for “Rhythm of the Village,” a taped performance by a Nigerian dance and drama troupe.
