Merchants National Corp. has won out over American Express to provide banking services to 300,000 U.S. military personnel stationed in continental Europe, the Defense Department announced. The Department said a two-year contract had been awarded to Merchants National, Indiana’s second-largest banking company, which will operate 134 bank facilities in West Germany, Greece and the Netherlands starting no later than February. The bank holding company has 101 branches in Indiana.
