A 3-year-old El Monte boy was struck and killed by a car and then dragged more than 25 feet before the driver accelerated to dislodge the child and drove off, police said. The child, whose name was withheld by authorities, was hit as he stood next to a parked pickup truck across from his family’s home on Valwood Avenue. El Monte Police Detective Linda Parrott said the boy was pronounced dead at Greater El Monte Community Hospital. Police were looking for a brown or maroon 1978 or 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
