An El Cajon man convicted of manufacturing millions of dollars worth of methamphetamine next door to an elementary school was sentenced Monday to eight years in state prison.

Authorities seized drugs with an estimated value of $44 million when they arrested Mark Humphrey White, 30, in September at his home next to Anza Elementary School.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Dave Lattuca told San Diego County Superior Court Judge J. Richard Haden on Monday that police found 16 pounds of marketable methamphetamine in the house. Officers also discovered 100 gallons of a liquid from which another 800 pounds of the drug could have been manufactured.

Because of the risk of explosion associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine, the drug lab’s location near a school was considered extremely dangerous by authorities.

White was found guilty last month in a non-jury trial on charges of manufacturing and possessing the drug.
