Police in the Tehama County town of Corning arrested a bus driver on suspicion of drunk driving after he allegedly purchased a six-pack of beer at a liquor store and then drove his bus, with two people aboard, at speeds of more than 70 m.p.h. on Interstate 5. Onis Alshie, a Washington state resident and employee of Cascade Trailways, was en route from Washington to Sacramento when, a clerk at a truck stop told Corning police, he appeared to be intoxicated when he stopped to buy beer. Several truck drivers told police they saw the bus going faster than 70 m.p.h. on Interstate 5 between Dunsmuir and Corning. Another bus was sent to pick up the two passengers after Alshie’s arrest.
