What’s in a Name
My 15-year-old son, David, was so inspired by The Times story that former state Sen. Omer Rains changed his first name to “Senator” (Part I, Aug. 15) that he has decided to change his first name to “Doctor” and his last name to “Ph.D.” As a college professor who occasionally must pay tribute to our physician, I suggested that “M.D.” might be more lucrative, but I’m not sure about the legality, in either case.
However, David has been assured by his 15-year-old friend Attorney Kenneth Burdick, J.D., (formerly Kenny Burdick) that the name change is perfectly within the law. Whether Burdick is right or not probably won’t matter. David has been given assurances by 14-year-old President Joseph Kim (formerly Joe Kim) and 15-year-old Chief Justice Kenneth David (formerly Kenny David) that he will be granted immunity from prosecution.
