Viewpoint / Letters : Fans: Commissioners at Fault for L.A.’s Loss and Irwindale’s Gain
So those buffoons who make up the Coliseum Commission have cost the city another team. First the Lakers, then the Rams, UCLA and now the Raiders. Can USC be far behind?
Bad enough that Los Angeles is becoming the laughingstock of the sports world. Has anyone stopped to figure out how many jobs will be lost, how much tax revenue will vanish and how much it will cost the taxpayers to support what will soon become a debt-ridden Coliseum-Sports Arena complex?
I suppose the next move the Coliseum Commission will make will be to lend Commission president Alexander Haagen another $25 million so he can tear down the Coliseum and build one of his shopping centers on the site. Or, as one commissioner so naively put it, does anyone really think the Coliseum will get another NFL team? That’ll be the day: The NFL paying the Coliseum the $15 million it lost in the Raiders’ lawsuit and then benignly giving it another team. There will never be another NFL game in the Coliseum once the Raiders move, and the Commission can take the blame for that.
