Fans: Commissioners at Fault for L.A.’s Loss and Irwindale’s Gain
So the Raiders are moving to Irwindale? That’s the place with lots of gravel pits. After last winter, during which only half of our normal rainfall was received, the rocky bottoms of the pits came into view.
In most years, the pits serve as windows to the water table, which rises up to turn the pits into lakes.
If the Raider organization can keep the bottom of their chosen pit dry, that will be a neat trick. If not, they should consider alternate uses for the proposed stadium, such as water polo or boat races. The Raiders could also consider changing their name to the Lakers.
