Supervisors Adopt Budget: Without comment, the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday adopted a $1.7-billion budget for the fiscal year that began July 1. The budget, one of the tightest ever for Orange County, includes a reduction in the work force of about 110 positions, said Richard L. Pickryl, program services manager for the county administrative office. About 80 of the lost positions are already vacant, and another 30 can be handled with layoffs, Pickryl said. County officials say the budget provides for about a 4% reduction in spending levels of the previous fiscal year. Wednesday’s vote was unanimous, with Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez absent.
