Ivan Lendl allowed Jay Berger to win two games and wasn’t happy about it.

Lendl scored a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Berger Wednesday night in the first round of the $150,000 Hamlet Challenge Cup at Jericho, N.Y., but he wasn’t satisfied.

Berger held serve in the fourth game of the second set, with Lendl objecting to a baseline call.

“I wanted to win that game and win the match, 6-0, 6-0,” Lendl said. “I’ve only won twice at love in the professional career. I beat (Mats) Wilander this year in an exhibition match and I beat (Jimmy) Connors a few years ago at Forest Hills.”

In other matches, top-seeded Helena Sukova of Czechoslovakia routed Beverly Bowes, 6-1, 6-3; third-seeded Manuela Maleeva of Bulgaria beat Nathalie Tauziat of France, 6-1, 6-4, and fourth-seeded Lori McNeil of Houston defeated Sandra Cecchini of Italy, 6-3,6-3.
