A.J. Foyt broke the world record for closed-course land speed by driving the Oldsmobile Aerotech at 257.123 m.p.h. at Fort Stockton, Tex.
The four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 also set a world record for the “flying mile,” with an average speed of 267.399 m.p.h.
The “flying mile” is the average speed on one mile of track, measured when the car is going clockwise and counterclockwise, officials said.
