DALLAS —
A motorist on a major freeway near downtown Dallas was shot in the face by a gunman but, despite a shattered jaw, drove himself several miles to a hospital, police said.
Ernest L. Gilbert, 36, told police that he was on Central Expressway about before dawn Thursday when he was struck in the cheek by a bullet fired from a passing van, police said.
Gilbert drove to the hospital and called police. He was listed as stable Friday.
Since January, 1986, there have been at least 14 roadway shootings in the Dallas area.
