GUEST ARTISTS TO JOIN IN UCI MUSIC SERIES

Cellist Nathaniel Rosen and violinist/violist Brian Dembow will be among guest artists appearing with UC Irvine faculty members in a five-program chamber music series beginning Oct. 17 in the Fine Arts Concert Hall on the UCI campus.

The first in the series of 8 p.m. performances will feature guests Dembow, violinist Yukiko Kamei, string bassist David Young and two faculty members, cellist Stephen Erdody and pianist Nina Scolnik.

The program will include Haydn’s Trio in C, Hob. XV: 27; Brahms’ Sonata for Cello and Piano in E minor, Op. 38, and Schubert’s Quintet in A, “Trout,” D. 667.

The series will continue:

--Nov. 22: Mezzo-soprano Nina Hinson, Dembow, French horn player Carole Drake and pianist Rosemary Hyler will play Brahms’ Two Songs for Alto, Viola and Piano, Op. 91; Hindemith’s Sonata, Op. 11, No. 4; Brahms’ Trio in E-flat for Horn, Violin and Piano, Op. 40, and works by Turina and Falla.

--April 7, 1988: Cellist Rosen and pianist Scolnik in Bach’s Suite No. 5 for Unaccompanied Cello in C minor; Francoeur’s Sonata in E; Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro, and Beethoven’s Sonata for Cello and Piano, No. 3 in A, Op. 69, among other works.

--April 10: Violinist Lyndon Taylor, violist Lucille Taylor, cellist John Walz, clarinetist Gary Bovyer and pianist Willem van Overeem in Milhaud’s Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano; Debussy’s Sonata No. 3 in G minor for Violin and Piano, and Premiere rapsodie for Clarinet, and Faure’s Elegy for Piano and Cello and Piano Quartet in C minor, Op. 15.

--April 24: Violinists Michele Bovyer and Claudia Parducci, Dembow, cellist Erdody, oboist Barbara Northcutt, clarinetist Bovyer and pianist John Steele Ritter in Mozart’s Quartet in F for Oboe and Strings, K. 370; Bliss’ Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, and Franck’s Quintet in F minor for Piano and Strings.
