Funeral Set for Juanita Harrington, 78

Funeral services are scheduled Friday for Orange County native Juanita James Harrington of Newport Beach, a founder of the county’s World Affairs Council and a former president of the Assistance League of Fullerton.

Mrs. Harrington died Tuesday at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach. She was 78.

The Rev. William McQuoid of St. Mark Presbyterian Church, Newport Beach, will officiate at a 1 p.m. service Friday at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana.

Survivors include Mrs. Harrington’s husband of 56 years, retired Orange County lumberman and land developer Frank C. Harrington, founder of Ward & Harrington Lumber Co.

Besides her work with the assistance league and World Affairs Council, Mrs. Harrington helped start the Newport Harbor Art Museum in the 1960s.

She was the daughter of the late W. H. and Pearl James, who operated restaurants and confectionary stores in downtown Santa Ana during the 1920s and 1930s.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Harrington is survived by two daughters, Ann Batman of San Rafael and Judy Loos of Newport Beach; a son, Jim Harrington of Newport Beach, and nine grandchildren.
