Former Police Lieutenant to Face Court Sept. 18 on Felony Charge

A former Huntington Park police lieutenant is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 18 in Municipal Court on a felony charge for allegedly firing a shotgun at a South Gate businessman’s truck in July.

David Hood, 45, is scheduled to face trial the same day on three additional misdemeanor charges stemming from a previous incident with the same businessman, Deputy Dist. Atty. Steven A. Sowders said.

Hood had been scheduled to be tried Aug. 27 on the three misdemeanor charges which allege that during an altercation Aug. 25, 1986, Hood slashed the tires of businessman Ronald Mobley’s motor home. Hood also is accused of threatening Mobley with a knife and a gun and making a false report to police that he had been attacked at his home by Mobley.

That trial was postponed to enable Hood to enter a plea on the felony charge, Sowders said.

Hood was free on his own recognizance when he was arrested July 27 on the felony charge that alleges he fired a shotgun blast at Mobley’s unoccupied pickup truck while it was parked in the driveway of Mobley’s La Habra home.

Hood was charged with intimidating a witness with the threat of force or violence, a felony charge that carries a maximum penalty of four years in state prison and a $10,000 fine. Hood is free on $15,000 bail.

Each of the three misdemeanor charges carries a maximum penalty of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Hood resigned from the Huntington Park Police Department on Aug. 17.
