AIDS Situation in the Schools

Share

According to county schools Supt. Robert Peterson’s letter (Aug. 30), a qualified physician stated the risk of the AIDS infection can be transmitted by means other than sexual contact or blood transfusions. With this fact in mind, schools are definitely at risk of future lawsuits.

Should a teacher or student develop AIDS after being exposed to an AIDS-infected classmate or staff member, the schools are more than likely going to be held responsible.

Until further studies are concluded about AIDS, I can understand why schools are reluctant to allow a student or teacher with AIDS to continue attending school. I don’t think it is a discriminatory issue, but rather a health issue.
