The Region : 2 Agencies Approve Oil Pipeline Plan

Share

Plans to build a 130-mile, $225-million pipeline to carry oil from Kern County wells to Los Angeles County refineries were given final environmental approval by the U.S. Forest Service and California Transportation Department. A government study concluded that the pipeline project, proposed by Southern California Pipeline System two years ago, does not represent unique hazards to the natural and human environment. However, environmental approval is only an initial step in a lengthy approval process. The proposed pipeline still must win the support of several communities, some of which are reported to be opposed to the project.
