ART MUSEUM MAKES $70,000 WITH WESTERN-STYLE PARTY
The Newport Harbor Art Museum’s 25th anniversary fund-raiser, a country-and-Western party featuring singer Tammy Wynette, netted about $70,000 Monday, according to a museum spokeswoman.
Kathy Bryant said Tuesday that the party drew 550 patrons who each paid from $75 to $5,000 to listen to Wynette, dress up in cowboy duds, dine at a homestyle barbecue and do the Texas two-step.
The $70,000, Bryant said, will go into the museum’s general fund.
The fund-raiser came off almost without a hitch. Wynette, the three-time Grammy Award-winner known for such hits as “Stand by Your Man” and “D-I-V-O-R-C-E,” arrived an hour late. She performed a 45-minute set, and the party ended about 11 p.m., Bryant said.
“She was late but very good,” Bryant added. “She was, however, the only person there not wearing Western clothes. She was dressed in formal wear.”
The museum is planning another fund-raiser for mid-October, Bryant said.
