General Cinema’s profit fell to $22 million in the third quarter from $28.8 million a year ago. The Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based company said that although operating earnings were up, the increase was not sufficient to offset costs associated with its increased investment in Carter Hawley Hale Stores, its investment in Cadbury Schweppes and spending on Super Video.
