SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL

Stuart Gordon--best known as the director of gore-fests like “Re-Animator” and “From Beyond” and the forthcoming “Robojox” (all from Empire Pics)--is finally going to make a movie his kids can see.

Said Gordon: “My partner Brian Yuzna and I both have young children (Gordon’s daughters are 5 and 9) . . . and both of us remember seeing great movies when we were kids. And those type of films simply don’t exist anymore.”

So the two came up with the story idea for “Teeny Weenies,” a $15-million adventure from an Ed Naha script, with Gordon directing, Yuzna producing and Disney distributing. The film centers on a group of kids playing ball who accidentally get shrunk by a beam from a prototype miniaturizing machine in a basement lab. (One of the kids has a physicist-father.)

What ensues is an “epic journey” across a backyard to get back home.

“We’re trying to say size is not important, it’s who you are that counts,” Gordon told us. “It’ll be a real challenge to create this actual miniature world. We’re looking at a lot of macro-photography to create something that’s never been seen before.”

It’s set to begin filming in mid-October at the Churubusco Studios in Mexico City, with Tom Smith, ex-manager of Industrial Light and Magic, supervising special effects.
