Arco Officer Hiram E. Bond Dies : Hiram E. Bond, Civic Leader and Arco Vice President, Dies at 62

Hiram E. Bond, a senior vice president of Arco who was active in the Long Beach business community, died Sept. 11 at his Rancho Palos Verdes home of an apparent heart attack.

Bond, 62, served as Arco Transportation Co. president at the division’s headquarters in Long Beach from 1981 until July, when he began working on special assignment with the company. He had announced that he would retire early next year.

He was a native of Texas and held a degree in mechanical engineering from Rice University. He joined Arco in 1948.

Bond served on a number of boards, including the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, St. Mary Medical Center, United Way and the Regional Arts Foundation.

He is survived by his wife, Eugenie; two daughters, Ellen Coulson and Teresa Pfeiffer; a son, Hiram E. Bond Jr.; and his mother, Lulu. A funeral service was held Wednesday at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Rancho Palos Verdes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that contributions be made to the St. Vincent Senior Citizens Nutrition Program in Los Angeles or St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach.
