Marino’s Passes Help Miami Continue Streak

The Miami Dolphins extended the longest domination of a National Football League rivalry Sunday, beating the Colts for a 14th straight time.

Dan Marino was the key in continuing the streak, throwing three touchdown passes to lead Miami to a 23-10 victory over Indianapolis (0-2). He completed 23 of 32 passes for 254 yards with touchdown throws of 18 yards to Troy Stradford, 10 yards to Mark Clayton and 6 yards to Jim Jensen.

Marino completed passes to seven different receivers as Miami rose to 1-1.

The Colts’ last victory over Miami was a 30-17 road win on Oct. 5, 1980. The Colts’ last home victory over Miami came in 1977.

Marino, the NFL’s all-time pass-efficiency leader, extended his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass to 25. The Miami quarterback seemed to be toying with Indianapolis safety Freddie Robinson, although he swore it was unintentional.

“I didn’t go after anybody in particular. I just try to do whatever it takes to win,” said Marino, who nevertheless victimized the rookie for two touchdowns.

Robinson missed tackles against Stradford at the 15 and against Clayton at the 2.

Indianapolis quarterback Gary Hogeboom completed 27 of 43 passes for 281 yards in his first start since undergoing surgery for torn left thumb ligaments three weeks ago. He throws right-handed.
