Santa Ana : Suspect Surrenders After Police Standoff

A 34-year-old man threatened to shoot his wife during an argument Monday, then barricaded himself inside his house for an hour after she escaped, police said.

Saul Castillo surrendered to police about 3 p.m., after talking on the telephone with Santa Ana police dispatcher Suzette Caddell, police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said.

Castillo’s wife, Blanca, 32, called police from a neighbor’s house in the 2300 block of West Borchard Avenue and told them that her husband had threatened her with a gun and that he was still in their house, Thomas said.

Police surrounded the home and arrested Castillo without shots being fired. At one point during the hourlong stand-off, five children from another family, apparently unaware of what was going on inside the house, emerged from the Castillo family’s garage and were quickly led away by police.

Castillo was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
