A University of Utah anti-apartheid group called off plans to picket Wednesday’s opening of a ballet version of “Anna Karenina” after Salt Lake City’s Ballet West company issued a statement opposing South Africa’s racial policies. The group, Students Against Apartheid, had threatened to picket the one-week performance because Ballet West purchased stage sets from a South African state-supported ballet and arts group. Ballet West and Students Against Apartheid held a joint news conference Wednesday morning to announce settlement of their dispute.
