Actress Jane Fonda, about to release a new videotape on how to prevent minor sports injuries, got some firsthand experience on the subject when she fell off her bicycle and separated a shoulder.

Fonda was injured Wednesday morning when she fell during an early morning ride along Pacific Coast Highway near her home in Santa Monica, said her publicist, Steve Rivers.

“The kind of interesting thing is we were supposed to be on a plane to New York today to promote two new videos she’s got coming out,” Rivers said Thursday. “Ironically, one of them was done with a doctor and deals with ways to prevent minor sports injuries.”

He said the videotape is titled “Jane Fonda Presents SportsAid.”

The Academy-Award winning actress, widely known for her series of exercise videotapes and books, stayed overnight at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica and went home Thursday after doctors placed a pin in her left shoulder.

Rivers said an acquaintance who was driving by saw the actress shortly after she fell and gave her a ride home. Her husband, Assemblyman Tom Hayden (D-Santa Monica), then drove her to the hospital, Rivers said.

He said the actress seemed to experience little pain from the spill.
