Returning Sailor Arrested in Slaying

A sailor, who had just returned from sea duty, was arrested Friday in connection with the stabbing death of a Navy anti-submarine warfare instructor whose body was found at a Pine Valley campground.

Lawrence Lane Morris, 28, was the second man arrested in connection with the death of 27-year-old Scott Lee Hill, a petty officer 1st class at the Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare School in San Diego, said Sgt. J.E. Figueroa of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department homicide detail.

Douglas Scott Ingham, 23, was booked on suspicion of murder Sept. 10 and is being held without bail in County Jail.

Both men were acquaintances of Hill’s. Morris, who is assigned to the Point Loma Submarine Base at Ballast Point, is Hill’s former roommate, Figueroa said.

Morris was booked on suspicion of murder at County Jail and is being held on $250,000 bond.
