Edmonton Oilers goalie Andy Moog announced that he is leaving the defending Stanley Cup champions and joining the Canadian Olympic hockey team.

Moog, 27, became a free agent with compensation when his contract expired at the end of last season. When the Oilers could not arrange a trade with another NHL club, Moog said he decided to join the Olympic team.

Moog split time with Grant Fuhr last season. He played in 46 games with a 3.51 goals-against average but appeared in only two playoff games.
