President Reagan’s advisers are concentrating increasingly on several women already in key government posts as potential successors to Transportation Secretary Elizabeth Hanford Dole, congressional and Administration sources said. The Administration is said to be under pressure to make a selection soon so the department can deal more effectively with a variety of pressing transportation issues, including continuing turmoil in Congress over how to make airlines provide better service. Among those being considered are Patricia Goldman, vice chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board; Wendy Lee Gramm, an economist and senior official of the Office of Management and Budget, and Martha Hesse, chairwoman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Dole will leave her post Thursday to assist with the presidential campaign of her husband, Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.).
