Local News in Brief : Gunman Fires at Deputies
A man who was distraught because he was unemployed opened fire on Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and barricaded himself in a Lancaster home for 45 minutes Monday, authorities said.
Robert John Larson, 37, surrendered about 7:30 a.m. from his rented home and was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer, Deputy Bill Wehner said. Larson was held without bail.
Larson shot at deputies when they arrived at his home at 44242 N. Cedar Ave. to investigate a report of gunshots in the neighborhood, Wehner said. No one was injured, but 125 of Larson’s neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.
Deputies searching the home found “bullet holes in all the walls,” two automatic handguns, five other handguns, a shotgun and a rifle, as well as a machete and other items that appeared to be survival supplies, Wehner said.
