Local News in Brief : 7,000 Ask for Recall

Share

Parents and teachers seeking the recall of Bonita Unified School District trustee Robert Green have submitted more than 7,000 signatures to the country registrar-recorder. If at least 5,664 of the signatures are valid, a special election will be held early next year to decide whether Green, who was first elected in 1977, should be recalled from the board.

Advocates of the recall allege that Green, along with the other trustees of the district, which serves San Dimas and La Verne, is largely to blame for the district’s recent financial problems and a contract dispute with teachers that led to a one-day strike last March.

Mel Hawkins, a teacher at Bonita High School and co-chairman of the recall committee, said the group is also opposing trustee Roger Campbell and Sue Moran, who are seeking reelection in the November.
