39 Raiders Turn Out for Workout to Show They’re Staying Out
As if in response to a report that several striking Raiders were about to cross the picket line, 39 of them showed up Monday for the strikers’ daily practice at El Segundo High School.
Included were big-money players Marcus Allen, Howie Long and Jim Plunkett. Long then joined the picket line around the Raider facility. Highlights included Todd Christensen making catcalls through a hole in the fence, with the help of a bullhorn, as the strikebreakers lunched on their hamburgers at the training table.
In the afternoon, the strikebreaking Raiders scrimmaged their San Francisco 49er counterparts.
The new 49ers flew down from San Francisco and were bused to the Raider base. The Raider picketers massed at the back gate but management fooled them and took the visitors in the front way, almost unchallenged.
The squads will scrimmage again this morning.
