The State : Chino May Be AIDS Facility
State officials, running out of room at the only California prison that houses inmates with AIDS, say they are considering the California Institution for Men at Chino as a second site. All inmates who have acquired immune deficiency syndrome or test positive as carriers of the AIDS virus are currently confined to the state Medical Facility in Vacaville. But that facility is rapidly running out of room and the Chino prison has the proper medical facilities to accept AIDS victims, said Bob Gore, spokesman for the state Department of Corrections. “I am very uncomfortable with the whole thing,” state Sen. Ruben S. Ayala (D-Chino) said. Aides to Sen. Robert Presley (D-Riverside) have scheduled a meeting Thursday to discuss the matter, and Ayala said he will attend.
