Share

A school bus carrying 78 children collided with a truck on U.S. 101 just north of Soledad, injuring an estimated 32 people, none seriously, the California Highway Patrol reported. Officers said the bus was carrying the children, between the ages of 6 and 12 years, from the Soledad Unified School District when it collided with a Chevrolet Suburban truck. Investigators said the bus driver, Dean Miller Collins, 52, of Soledad apparently failed to yield and pulled in front of the truck as it was heading north on the highway. Officers said nine children were treated at a local hospital and released. The others were treated at the scene.
