Yugoslavia’s Slobodan Zivojinovic defeated West Germany’s Boris Becker, 7-6, 7-6, in an exhibition match Thursday at a soccer stadium in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

A crowd of 20,000 fans watched Zivojinovic defeat his close friend and sometime doubles partner.

“I don’t like to lose,” said Becker, who is ranked fourth in the world. “I have never played on a soccer stadium, and I hope it will not happen to me again. Tennis should be played on tennis courts and not soccer stadiums.”

“Becker was leading 5-0 in victories over me before this match, and I did my best to beat him for the first time in front of my home fans,” Zivojinovic said.

Lori McNeil of Houston also moved into the third round, beating Heather Ludloff, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2.

Garrison will meet Marianne Werdel of Bakersfield, Calif., and McNeil will play fifth-seeded Kate Gompert of Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Top-seeded Chris Evert, who routed Anne Minter of Australia, 6-0, 6-1, Wednesday night, was to face Barbara Gerken of Thousand Oaks, Calif., in Thursday’s featured night match.

Unseeded Jorge Arrese of Spain upset second-seeded Guillermo Perez-Roldan of Argentina, 6-1, 6-3, in the second round of a $100,000 tournament at Palermo, Sicily.
