An investigation has been started into whether a University of California football player received credits at a junior college for courses he never took, according to a published report.
The case reported in the Sacramento Bee involves Steve Loop, a kicker from Merced who was declared academically ineligible on the eve of Cal’s season opener with the University of Pacific last month.
Loop’s transcript showed him taking two courses through the Peralta Community College District’s summer session at Oakland’s Laney College this year, although he spent the summer in Merced, the newspaper reported.
