The Chinese film “Old Well,” directed by Wu Tianming, won the best film award and its leading actor, Zhang Yimou, received the best actor prize at the 1987 Tokyo International Film Festival. No prize money was awarded. The special jury prize went to the Canadian film “House Keeping,” directed by Bill Forsyth. Forsyth also received the prize for best screenplay. Lana Gogoberidze of the Soviet Union, who produced the film “Turnover,” was named best director. The best actress award went to Rachel Ward of Australia for the Australian film “The Good Wife.”
