Donnie Moore of the Angels, who was placed on the disabled list twice this season with nerve irritation in the right rib cage area, was in good condition after undergoing five hours of spinal surgery at Centinela Hospital Medical Center.

Dr. Robert Watkins, who removed a small bone spur, would not speculate how long the spur had been present or whether it was the source of Moore’s discomfort. The 33-year-old relief pitcher will remain in the hospital for a couple of days.

Moore, appeared in 14 games during the 1987 season with a 2-2 record with 5 saves and a 2.70 earned-run average. He had compiled 52 saves over the previous two seasons, including a club-record 31 saves in 1985.
