Local News in Brief : ‘Bandit’ Taxi Injunction

Share

A Superior Court judge Tuesday ordered the operator of five taxicab companies, accused by the city attorney of operating illegally in Los Angeles, to abide by the rules and keep logs of their taxi traffic.

Judge Ricardo Torres issued a preliminary injunction against taxicab operator Gabriel Vincent de Caesar, who was accused in a $382,500 civil suit by the city of operating more than 100 “bandit” taxis.

At a news conference last month, City Atty. James Hahn charged that De Caesar was the worst of several taxicab operators who “rip off taxpayers for $1 million a year and steal business from legitimate taxi operators.”

Paul Caruso, De Caesar’s attorney, did not oppose the preliminary injunction.
