After the Quake : Monrovia: Aid Group Loses Building

A three-story building in the World Vision complex was declared off limits by city officials Tuesday because of structural damage caused by Sunday’s aftershock.

The building housed the international relief group’s mailroom, which had processed a daily average of 12,000 pieces of mail containing $360,000 in contributions.

World Vision spokesman Jerry Kitchell said it will take three to four months and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to bring the building back up to code. Meanwhile, he said, the 120 employees displaced by the damage will double up with workers in the organization’s seven other buildings.
