Were These Guys Once Our Boyhood Heroes?
As a 40-year dedicated union man (U.A.W.), I cannot understand how anyone could ever cross the NFL players’ picket line or why the “line” permits anyone to cross. It’s a firm fact that when you are out there on a picket line, if you want to win, you never allow anyone to cross the line. I have walked many picket lines and was willing to sacrifice everything I had to win.
I know that the players’ union is a young one and is going through “growing pains,” and has a lot to learn. They can only survive if they can stay united even if they lose this one, if they have a firm and dedicated president (which they have) and if they have some “clout” to put pressure on the owners. If this case ever goes to the courts, there is no possible way the owners could win.
