The Chinese film “Old Well,” directed by Wu Tianming, won the best film award and its leading actor, Zhang Yimou, received the best actor prize at the 1987 Tokyo International Film Festival. In addition, the special jury prize went to the Canadian film “Housekeeping,” directed by Bill Forsyth. Forsyth also received the prize for best screenplay. Soviet director Lana Gogoberidze took the directing prize for “Turnover,” while the best actress award went to Rachel Ward for the Australian film “The Good Wife.”
