County Firm Hired to Expand Computer at Italian Airport
General Automation said it received orders valued at nearly $275,000 to expand the computer systems at Linate International Airport in Milan, Italy.
The Anaheim-based company said its computers already are used at the airport to control the luggage handling and sorting system.
The new installation is part of a transportation system being installed by Mannesmann-Demag, a German industrial automation company, according to Irvin Ella, General Automation’s vice president and general manager for European operations.
The General Automation system controls all baggage sorting from passenger check-in to the final point of departure, using a computer-read bar code label attached to each piece of luggage to track each piece and to allot it space on the baggage-handling conveyor belt system.
