Police are seeking a man who has raped four elderly women in East San Diego since mid-August, police reported Wednesday.

The attacks--plus an attempted rape of another elderly woman by the same suspect--have occurred between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. in residences where the women live alone. The victims are between 60 and 89, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

The first attack occurred Aug. 16, and the latest incident happened Saturday. It appears that in most cases the rapist entered through an unlocked door.

“In one case, he rang the doorbell and the victim opened the door without checking to see who it was,” Robinson said. “We encourage all residents to lock all doors and windows and notify police of any suspicious activity.”

The rapist is described as black, between 25 and 40 years old, 5-foot-9 to 6-foot tall and having a muscular build.

Robinson said the rapes are apparently unrelated to those of another rapist believed to be responsible for 11 sexual assaults in Old Town, East San Diego and Pacific Beach.
