Morton, Turner Are Keys as Titans Open Basketball Practice
Richard Morton and Henry Turner, Cal State Fullerton’s leading scorers last season, head a squad of 13 that will begin basketball practice today.
The Titans, who were 17-13 and played in the National Invitation Tournament last season, will be without Derek Jones, who had been a projected starting forward but is recovering from serious gunshot wounds received in an August attack in Long Beach.
Morton, a guard who averaged 18.4 points a game, and Turner, a forward who averaged 15.2 points and 6.0 rebounds a game, are the only returning starters among seven lettermen.
The Titans will open the season against Montana in Missoula, Mont., on Dec. 2.
George McQuarn, who is in his eighth year as Titan coach, is 110-100 at Fullerton.
The women’s basketball team, which returns five starters, also will begin practice today.
Amy Torczon, who averaged 11.4 points and 7.6 rebounds a game, led the team to a 12-16 record in 1986.
