Garden Grove : 3 Arrested on Charges of Being Bookmakers

Three people were arrested on suspicion of bookmaking and $140,000 was seized from an alleged gambling operation run out of a bar, authorities said Thursday.

The arrests came Wednesday following a two-month investigation at Mr. Barry’s Bar on Westminster Avenue, according to Jeff Allen, a police spokesman.

Allen said police had been alerted in July that the bar was being used for a bookmaking operation.

Arrested at the bar were Ernest John Sabourin, 65, of Santa Ana,; bar owner Barry Clarence Self, 55, of Westminster and Donna Jean Robertson, 55, of Garden Grove, Allen said.

In addition to the cash, police also seized betting markers and ledgers, Allen said.
