ROCK ‘N’ ROLLED

Share

When I read Steve Hochman’s review of Motley Crue’s Forum concert (“Motley Crue’s Rock ‘n’ Roles,” Oct. 8), his first line, “Lued, crued, rued. . .” rang a bell, because it reminds me of a song Donald O’Connor and Peggy Ryan sang to each other (in the 1942 Universal film, “Mr. Big”), “Rude, Crude and Unattractive.”

I guess today we’d have to spell it “Rued, Crued and Unattractive.” Actually, in the film, I think it meant that they liked each other.

Innocent as it all seems in retrospect, perhaps that was the Ursprung (hold the umlaut) of the whole later ethic of shouting the unspeakable till it screams Art or Meaning (they hope).

P.S. Did I notice a review of Die Zauberflote just under the Motley Crue review? Let me umlaut-ta here!
