The National Collegiate Athletic Assn.’s mandatory drug tests are accurate and are basically the same procedures used during the Olympic Games and the Pan American Games, a scientist who conducts them testified during a trial in which Stanford University and two of its athletes are challenging the test.
“These procedures are accepted in the international community,” Dr. Robert Dugal said.
Stanford linebacker Barry McKeever and soccer player Jennifer Hill are co-plaintiffs. McKeever testified that he felt “degraded and embarrassed” when he took the urine test before the Gator Bowl last year.
“I was put in a situation where I was told sign it or don’t play football, and because football is the biggest part of my life, I signed it. I don’t really think I had a choice.”
