Williams Still Unsigned as Agent Asks Clippers for $1 Million a Year

The Clippers are continuing negotiations with Georgetown guard/forward Reggie Williams, the fourth player selected in last June’s National Basketball Assn. draft.

The Clippers reportedly offered Williams a $3.5-million, four-year deal.

However, David Falk, Williams’ agent, reportedly countered by asking for a five-year contract worth $1 million a season.

The Clippers, who have signed their other two first-round picks, Ken Norman and Joe Wolf, have offered Williams a deal that would have paid him more than Ohio State guard Dennis Hopson, the No. 3 player selected in the draft, and Scottie Pippin, the fifth player selected, will receive.

Hopson reportedly signed a $2.8-million, four-year deal with the New Jersey Nets, and Pippin reportedly signed for four years at $681,000 a year, with a fifth-year option at $1.1 million and a $350,000 buyout clause.

The Clippers play the Golden State Warriors in a National Basketball Assn. exhibition game tonight at 7:30 at the Sports Arena. The Clippers (1-1) beat the Warriors, 107-91, Thursday night at Santa Barbara. . . . Clipper Coach Gene Shue cut three players Friday--David Thirdkill, Jim Lampley and Henry Carr. The Clippers now have 16 players in camp, including injured guard Lancaster Gordon. . . . The Clipper practice from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sports Arena today will be open to the public.
